Encino's 1000 year old oak tree, also known as "The Lang Oak" was declared Historic-Cultural Monument #24 September 5, 1963 (Photo courtesy of: The Los Angeles Public Library Images online database)

"The Lang Oak Tree" Encino's 1000 year old oak fell over on February 8th 1998 due to the El Nino storm system. The historic oak tree is gone, but it will not be forgotten, thanks to the work of Encino residents, private organizations and city officials.
